I felt overwhelming nostalgia when I first came across this humble bubble tea store in Jalan Bukit Merah. It reminded me of the retro $1 bubble tea stores I used to visit after school when I was a kid. Gambateh Cafe (甘巴茶) used to be situated in ABC Brickworks Hawker Centre, but has since shifted into their own store a stone’s throw away in 2017. You can expect a crowd during lunch hours.
The store is said to be started by a Taiwanese in 2012, and their authentically Taiwan recipe has earned them many happy and loyal customers. Other than drinks, they also have grass jelly desserts and pandan waffles, which are a hit with their patrons.
The drinks are all priced at $1.90, and you can choose from 3 different toppings for your milk tea! Add-ons such as pearls, grass jelly, and rainbow konjac jelly are available for other drinks at a cost.
Gambateh Cafe does not offer customisation of sugar level by percentage, but instead ask if you would like less sugar for your drink. Of course I declined hahaha.
Yakult Green Tea (Normal Sugar)
|(I know I am a disgrace for getting bubble tea without bubbles. I’ll update the post the next time I get it with pearls.) While the variety of drinks were limited, I was delighted to find Yakult Green Tea on the menu. The taste is pretty similar to Koi’s Yakult Green Tea (70% sugar), and its size is also comparable to the large cups from bigger bubble tea brands! Remember that this is only $1.90! What a steal!|
Given the price and quality, I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to pop by and give this store a try!
Also, please leave a comment if you know of or recommend any other bubble tea stores with Yakult Green Tea on their menu! Would love to pay them a visit!
