I felt overwhelming nostalgia when I first came across this humble bubble tea store in Jalan Bukit Merah. It reminded me of the retro $1 bubble tea stores I used to visit after school when I was a kid. Gambateh Cafe (甘巴茶) used to be situated in ABC Brickworks Hawker Centre, but has since shifted into their own store a stone’s throw away in 2017. You can expect a crowd during lunch hours.
Playmade by 丸作 (Chinese characters are pronounced as wan zuo, which loosely translates to making of pearls. Probably named after their handmade pearls.) is a Taiwanese bubble tea store that prides itself on drinks made from scratch, with all-natural ingredients. They have an extensive list of pearl flavours that sets them apart from the rest.
Taigai Singapore recently ran a 1-for-1 promotion for their Beary Cute Series, which is essentially drinks with bear-shaped lids that remind you of a certain messenger app. There are 3 flavours to choose from, Beary Dark Co Co ($4.80), Beary Oolong Milk Tea ($3.50 with 1 topping of choice), and the classic Beary Milk Tea ($3.50 with 1 topping of choice). The drinks were supposed to come with decorative stickers but they ran out of it.
